WriteNudge privacy

How writing and website data are handled.

This page describes the app’s writing processing separately from update checks and this website’s beta request form.

App writing processing

Writing is processed on your Mac.

WriteNudge uses macOS spelling and language tools for local checks. Eligible sentence fixes can use Apple’s on-device model when available. Tone, Prompt, selection actions and sentence fallback use separately installed local Ollama and a suitable model.

The app addresses Ollama writing requests only to this Mac and refuses redirects. Writing does not leave the Mac through the app’s writing processing. Ollama is separate software; the app does not control its configuration or subsequent behavior.

The local voice profile stores learned vocabulary and suggestion feedback to adapt deterministic checks. It does not train a model. You can erase the profile in Settings.

Accessibility and memory

Understand what Assistant reads.

With Assistant enabled and Accessibility permission granted, the app reads qualifying focused text fields in other apps once per second. Turn Assistant off to stop polling and clear external context. Hide until tomorrow only hides the tab.

Recognized secure fields are refused. Custom controls may not expose usable security signals, so this is not universal password-field detection. App and field support varies, and some hosts offer Copy only.

Editor text and captured external text are held in memory. Copy or export work you want to keep before closing the app. There is no document autosave or history promise.

Update traffic

Update checks are separate requests.

Each update check makes one HTTPS GET to https://writenudge.app/appcast.xml. Standard request headers and app/version information are sent, and the host sees the connection’s IP address. Writing, license keys and a system profile are not sent. Sparkle’s system profiling is off.

Automatic checks start enabled and automatic installation starts disabled. Settings controls automatic checks. Accepting an available update makes a separate request to download the signed disk image.

Website services

Beta requests, hosting and email.

The beta request form collects your name, Apple ID email, Mac selection, the app and any meeting note you add, to manage your invitation request. Optional news consent is separate from the request.

The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help prevent automated submissions. This site is hosted on Cloudflare, which may record technical request details such as IP addresses for security and service operation.

If you email SSU, the message and email address are used to handle the inquiry. Keep private writing, license keys and payment details out of messages.

The contact is support [at] writenudge.app. Use the same address for privacy questions and deletion requests.
